Why Wait? - Revisited

While my mother and I were watching television, an advert came on about some medication for stomach upset. The advert was saying that next time people experience stomach upset they should ask their pharmacist for that particular product.

"Yeah right, why not hang on to your stomach upset until you've been to the pharmacist and bought the product?" I said.

"It sounds very silly when you think about it that way," mum said.

"Not to the advertising and pharmaceutical companies; they are there to promote sickness. That's why they make so much money."

The next day I had a bit of a cramp from period so I had a lie-in. Later my mother asked me how I was feeling and I said I was back to normal.

"Actually, I should say 'I will feel a lot better after I go to the chemist tomorrow and get some pain-killers,'" I said. "That's what that TV advert was suggesting yesterday, remember? That we should hold on to the pain and not let it go until you've taken the right pill or medication."

Mum laughed.

"You know I would never have thought how ridiculous that advert was if you hadn't brought it to my attention," mum said. "I'm sure a lot of people don't think the way you do."

"A lot of people are walking around with their eyes wide open but they are fast asleep. That's why they act so stupid. There are lots of these personal development and spiritual courses that people book months in advance waiting to get enlightened, instead of knowing they have the answers now."

"And those courses are not cheap," mum said.

"You're right. Book now and pay me hundreds of Pounds and I'll guide you to enlightenment."

"You have to be very alert then not to get sucked in," mum said.

"Yes, you have to be "awake" 24 hours a day or you're lost."

Why wait to get better when I can be well now for free?
