During my walk I said hello to this man I came across and he responded in kind. As I was walking away, he called me back and asked me to remind him where we'd met before.
"I don't think I've met you before!" I said. "I was just saying hello because I tend to say hello to people."
"That's very good!" he said.
"Have a nice day!" I said.
People complain about how unfriendly Londoners are. I have observed when I am in the mood and I break the ice, people not only say hello back, they remember me the next time I see them and smile and say hello. Sometimes saying hello to "strangers" backfires on me and I end up being asked out, which can be a tad annoying. I even got asked out today by this Polish guy after I said hello to him and his friend. I declined his offer though. At least I never get hassled by women. :-)
It's also fun when people break the ice with me too.
